It is with great sorrow that Thomas-Daniels-Hand Post 443 in Sanford regretfully announces that the annual Sanford Memorial Day Parade, scheduled for Monday, May 25, 2020, is canceled. It is through this event that we remember and honor the fallen men and women of our Armed Forces. With the outbreak of COVID-19 across the globe, we must honor our fallen service members sacrifice by ensuring the safety of our Midland County citizens. This pandemic has temporarily taken over our daily routines and comforts, but it can never take away memories, honor, and respect of those service members who paid the ultimate sacrifice. By adherence to social distancing guidelines, we can remember our fallen service members and pay our respects to our healthcare workers and first responders that are on the frontlines of this crisis.
Additionally, the Veterans Memorial Service scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2020 at the Sanford Museum is also canceled, as are the annual Poppy sales scheduled for May 14 and 15, 2020. Our concern for public safety is our priority during this time of uncertainty.
Due to the Governor's Executive Order - ALL Events have been CANCELED until further notice. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

With the eligibility dates now, those designated as “peacetime” veterans is no longer the case. The VA keeps track of the number of veterans in each era. As of September 30, 2018, the veteran population in Michigan designated as peacetime is 157,618.
